renaat braem :: the social housing complex in kiel

The social housing complex in Het Kiel (district of Antwerp) is designed by architect Renaat Braem in period 1951 – 1958. He was the member of the prestigious CIAM (Congres Internationaux de l’Architecture Moderne), his works are showing a strong influence of Le Corbusier and the ’50s international modern style of architecture. Renaat Braem is the most important Belgian architects from that period and he had designed such prominent public buildings in Antwerp as Bouwecentrum, the police building “Oudaen” and Middelheim Open Air Sculpture Museum.
